last days – #002

While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” (John 12:36)

Jesus gave that warning because He knew darkness will once again cover the earth. But why and how will it happen?

Like the days of Noah after the flood when peace was restored to earth for a season, but soon after that, man’s sinful ways once again flooded the earth.

When men and women yielded to sin, darkness will increase on the earth. People invited the devil to fellowship and rejected Jesus who represented the truth of God’s will and commandment.

Instead of walking in obedience to God’s light and truth, those who followed darkness became agents of darkness here on earth. Therefore when the majority of the population chose to be “sons of darkness”, behold how great and how deep that darkness.

In the days of Jesus, people saw a great light and they flocked to The Good Shepherd in search of truth. Those who invited Jesus to fellowship were walking in the light of God’s truth and were recognized as “sons of God, sons of light”.

However when Jesus was crucified on the cross, darkness covered the earth. Those who rejected Jesus plotted with the devil to kill and to suppress the light of God.

In the days of the Apostle Peter recorded in the Book of Acts, once again the light of God’s truth shine in the land. Those who preciously lost track were once again brought back to the light of God’s truth.

As the disciples banded together, that light of God’s truth exposed the darkness of the land and many were convicted of their sins. But those who loved darkness and hated light persecuted the righteous sons and daughters of light.

Towards the end of the era of the Early Christians, that Seven Letters to the Seven Churches found in the Book of Revelations was a warning to preserve the light of God’s truth.

Like the days after Noah, when once again sin flooded the earth, men and women fell into fellowship with darkness and various churches did lose their light.

We know Jesus overcame sin and darkness, but question is how many of us will stand firm with Jesus and partake of that victory together with Him?

In our days and times, once again that brightness of our light as according to God’s truth is confronted by darkness. When men and women begin to redefine sin and attempt to change the eternal will and commandments of God, darkness will spread like cancer.

“Christian” entities in the U.S that swayed to same-sex marriages are leaving the light of God’s truth and falling into darkness. Already such folly is manifesting across the world.

True Christianity is a test of our faith

True Christianity is test of our obedience unto God’s will.

True Christianity is a test of our exercise of wisdom, whom do we choose to serve?

True Christianity is about decision making for our eternal future.

True Christianity is a test of our love for God and His will and commandments.

While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” (John 12:36)

When Jesus preached that, He wanted the people to choose.

When Jesus preached that, He wanted the people to decide whose sons and daughter they chose to be.

When Jesus preached that, He wanted the people to walk in His light or continue in their own darkness.

If we claim to have any association with Christ, then we are called to choose and decide between darkness and light.

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. (Amos 8:11)

There was a time in history, true incident, when the people willfully rejected the will and commandments of God. People rejected the truth of God. God was grieved but since the people wanted it so, eventually there was an actual “famine” of God’s word.

Light and truth became limited supplies it went into sever scarcity. The word of God became so rare; it faded into nonexistence, heading to extinction.

But  how did the people realize that the light and truth of God’s word were heading to extinction? One day while walking the streets, somebody awaken to the reality that their society is now completely saturated in darkness.

Darkness manifested in the form of evilness – people having no sense of right and wrong.

Darkness manifested in the form of wickedness – people committing civil and criminal offenses as a hobby.

Darkness manifested in the form of ‘no justice” – righteous men and women were oppressed and have no access to help, no access to mediator.

Darkness manifested in the form of “no truth” – people preferred fantasy not truth.

Just an example of how dark was that darkness, in the context of Old Testament records –

26 As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, “Help me, my lord the king!”

27 The king replied, “If the Lord does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?” 28 Then he asked her, “What’s the matter?”

She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give up your son so we may eat him today, and tomorrow we’ll eat my son.’ 29 So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I said to her, ‘Give up your son so we may eat him,’ but she had hidden him.”

30 When the king heard the woman’s words, he tore his robes. As he went along the wall, the people looked, and they saw that, under his robes, he had sackcloth on his body. (2 Kings 6:26-30)

People went into cannibalism of their own flesh and blood, for the sake of survival, to keep themselves alive another day, if they may see another sunrise.

Israel had fallen into great darkness. The ruler of the land awakens to the reality they were in deep darkness. People lost their common sense of righteousness and justice.

The people of the land lost that understanding, what they did and whatever they were doing was in fact killing themselves and destroying their own future.

From the time of Solomon, recognized as Israel’s Golden Era, the nation was warned not to depart from the light of God’s truth. Indeed the nation was blessed and protected when they kept their faithfulness to the will and commandments of God.

In the days of the prophet Amos, the people were moving further and further away from God and deeper and deeper into their own darkness. Till the time of Second Kings, society was completely saturated in darkness. People were so numb to their darkness they lost sense of truth.

That is the opportunity cost of rejecting the light and truth of God’s word.

People lost their identity and their future in God.

While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” (John 12:36)
