follow Jesus – #001

No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Luke 16:13)

It was very obvious Jesus was asking His disciples to choose and decide if we seriously wanted to follow Him.

Yes, we follow Him. No we despise Him. It’s really one way or the other. Let’s consider the many areas of our daily life where we can actually serve and follow Jesus.

1 – in our opinion

Yes we are living in the age of Digital Tech or some will refer to the Biblical prophecy of Daniel “when knowledge will increase”. We actually have acquired tonnes of human knowledge, collected lots more data and all these information is destined to increase.

Knowledge can increase as according to people’s opinion, learning and experiences.

Just do a simple count how many universities in the world, how many graduates every year, how many thesis and dissertations submitted and published ….. Now that’s really massive lots of ideas and opinions.

Anybody know what’s the list for Christian theologians and theological papers?

Question: “do all agree with Jesus completely?” Now that’s something for us to think about and we need to do that from time to time.

In the days of Jesus He had 12 Apostles not 12 denominations, one betrayed Him for 30 pieces of silver.

They had their differences and a bit of competition who’s the greatest and the best. But end of the day they were all “servants of the Lord”. Except for that one who betrayed Him.

The Apostles and disciples who moved on with Jesus in the days of Acts of the Apostles they preached and practiced the same will and commandment of God taught by Jesus our Master and Savior.

Of course in those days there were counterfeits and fakes who attempt to trick people away from the real Jesus but the Apostles fought bravely against them. The Apostle Paul was one of the champion against false teachers. Paul’s bragging rights “follow me as I follow Christ”.

All of us had been through formal education one way or another, be it secular, vocational or theological, end of the day we need to question ourselves how much of our personal opinion do actually agree with Jesus?

Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so? (Amos 3:3)

Our first step in serving Jesus has to start from our will and mind to agree with Jesus. That’s where our commitment starts, that’s where our faithfulness begins.

Let’s start and begin our day, every day on the right path with Jesus.

2 – how we make decision and resolves conflicts

We act and react to circumstances and situation, but how do we actually do that?

We can make decision and reaction based on how people treated or ill-treated us.

We can make decision and reaction based on what we can accept and what we cannot accept.

We can make decision and reaction based on our personal choice and standard of judgement.

However at the end of the day, having spent all our time thinking through what we should do next, we need to draw the final conclusion that we can actually make decision based on our will and desire to submit to the will and teachings of Jesus.

One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless. (Proverbs 14:16)

Remember Jesus when He was on trial before Pilate.

Pilate in his capacity and authority as appointed judge in human court of his days had wanted to declare Jesus guiltless and set Jesus free. Pilate knew Jesus was betrayed by the chief priests out of jealousy.

Pilate knew Jesus did nothing worthy of condemnation.

In the life and ministry of Jesus, He was a living example of walking the ways and truth of God. We can serve God by following Jesus’ way of making decision and resolving human conflicts.

Jesus makes decision through seeking the will of God, through much prayers and faithful relationship with God.

Jesus resolves human conflict by submitting to the will of God.

3 – how we prepare for tomorrow and predict the future

Many people loves forecast – weather forecast, financial expert forecast, etc.

But we have with us the most important forecast of our life. We still have a long list of forecast found in the records of what Jesus and the Apostles said which are unfolding before us.

Are we prepared for the future as Jesus wanted us to?

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

The words of Jesus remind us He will return to rule and reign, are we prepared for it?

The words and teachings of Jesus and the Apostles warn us our world is heading towards more corruptions and darkness before Jesus return, are we prepared for it?

As according to the words and forecast of Jesus and His Apostles, we need to be prepared what kind of darkness we shall encounter.

It’s a kind of darkness when people will lose sight of their own future.

It’s a kind of darkness when people cannot discern truth and lies.

It’s a kind of darkness when people cannot see hidden agendas.

It’s a kind of darkness when people cannot ascertain if they are heading towards the kingdom of God or somewhere else.

Finally, it’s a kind of darkness people will swing to support the Anti-Christ.

As disciples and followers of Christ we have been taught how to escape that darkness.

The words and prophesies of Jesus is sure and definite.

No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Luke 16:13)

Therefore how can we serve Jesus in our time?

We can serve Jesus from our mind and heart that we agree with the will of God.

We can serve Jesus from our acts, by submitting to the will of God.

We can serve Jesus by paying attention to the forecast of human lives as according to the words and teachings of Jesus and the Apostles, about events now and the future and be prepared to meet Jesus in person.
