follow Jesus – #005

And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

Jesus had important reasons to recruit people as fishers of men.

Jesus came to bring us into the kingdom of God. He did.

Jesus came to saved us from our sins and condemnations. He did.

Jesus has something more to give us, and we need to work together with Him on that.

Jesus knew many more needed to hear the message of God’s love and salvation plan, the harvest is plentiful but laborers are few.

As workers and servants of the Lord, how do we ensure we are leading people in the right path? How do we ensure we don’t lost our way?

How often have we been asked that question, and how do we answer?

How often have we been challenged “are you sure you’re doing the right thing?

There must be something definite and clear, so that we can have a strong defense about what we do for Jesus.

Follow Jesus.

Yes that is the answer.

Follow Jesus.

If we are following Jesus, then those we lead are also following Jesus in the same path. Right, how about a more detail explanation to that?

Let’s consider what else Jesus said about following Him –

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Jesus identifies Himself as “the light of the world” and He promised us two results of following Him –

will not walk in darkness

will have the light of life

We can easily understand the differences between light and darkness.

Jesus said those who follow Him will not walk in darkness.

It is difficult to walk in the dark, because darkness blocks our vision and sense of direction.

We stumble and fall in the dark.

We do not know who we are walking with in the dark.

We lost our way in the dark.

We just cannot see in the dark.

We encountered many dangers and harm in the dark.

It is good to walk in the light; we can see where we are heading.

It is good to walk in the light; we can avoid dangers.

It is good to walk in the light; we know we are in good company.

If we do not have light of our own, the next best thing we need is to be guided.

Jesus, the light of the world, gave us our vision and our sense of destiny.

Jesus, the light of the world, shows us where we need to be heading.

Jesus, the light of the world, is our guide.

Jesus said those who follow Him will have the light of life.

What is this light of life all about? First let’s go back to history in search of clues.

A brief history of humanity in 4 sentences, in trying to understand light of life –

1 – When God created Mankind, humanity had that close fellowship with God our Creator.

2 – That fellowship was broken. That incident was commonly known as The Fall.

3 – Human life before and after The Fall, gave us a clue what it means to have the light of life, and later to lost it.

4 – As God went searching for Adam and Eve, Jesus went looking for lost sheep.

Now in our modern day society how do we comprehend and appreciate this light of life

Our life will become brighter or darker, depends who we follow

What does that mean?

As disciples of Jesus, we need to know our practices, our spiritual discipline, and our habits are leading us somewhere. It’s not just about who we are, but it is leading us somewhere.

Again, what does this means?

Our Christian life is a journey of faith, and we do have a destination, and this destination of faith transcend time space and location.

And what is this destination of faith?

Let’s consider a Bible passage, which could be the most quoted even non-believers knows about it – Psalm 23

We only have to look at the opening and ending verses to get a clue –

The Lord is my shepherd … .. (Psalm 23:1)

….. ….. ….. ….. …… ……

… . and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:6)

Our Christian life is a journey of faith, and we do have a destination of faith that transcend time space and location.

Our daily Christian destination is in finding that fellowship with Jesus and to remain in the house of our Lord forever.

Our ultimate destination is eternal fellowship with Jesus.

As disciples of Jesus, our practices, our spiritual discipline, and our habits are leading us towards that fellowship destination with Jesus.

As disciples of Jesus, our practices, our spiritual discipline, and our habits are keeping us in the fellowship with Jesus that transcends time space and location.

Our fellowship with Jesus is where we find this light of life.

This light of life which Jesus promised is only achievable when we walks and continue to walk with Jesus every day.

This light of life which Jesus promised, we can only receive in our active journey of faith of following Jesus.

As we follow Jesus, we are passing on that light of life to people around us-

And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

As workers and servants of Jesus, this is how do we ensure we are on the right path –

Follow Jesus.

Jesus came to redeem us from our bondage to sin, He did.

Jesus has something more for us.

As we follow Jesus we are following Jesus into a life time journey of fruitful relationship and fellowship with God.

This journey of faith requires our daily response, our daily self-discipline.

Our life will become brighter if we continue to walk with Jesus.

Our life will become brighter if we continue to follow Jesus in our spiritual discipline.

Let’s follow Jesus and share the light of life to people around us.
