Discipleship # 005

Our prayer time with Jesus is our daily efforts to continue our relationship with Jesus every day ….

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us day by day our daily bread.

And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” (Luke 11:1-4)

The Lord’s Prayer helps us to reflect upon important areas of our life –

Who do we trust our life with?

Who do we live for?

Let’s reflect again on the Lord’s Prayer in details –

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

God Almighty who created everything is in fact our Father in heaven.

He created everything with a plan and a purpose … thus by praying according to His will is to make our daily decision to flow according to His plan.

It is the will of our Father in heaven that all men and women may live under His provision and protection, and be in eternal fellowship with Him.

Our Father in heaven has a good plan and purpose for us to live in His peace and goodness … forever

Give us day by day our daily bread.

Human society taught us to work hard and be an achiever.

Jesus taught us to trust and obey our Father in heaven.

Jesus taught us to depend on our Father in heaven for our continuing daily living.

This may sound silly for the hard working achiever, but end of the day where do we draw our strength and energy to face the challenges of every day?

The heavenly bread of our Father in heaven is in the wisdom and knowledge of Jesus. The instructions of Jesus lead us to eternal life.

Every day of our human life people are looking for solution for better living, but Jesus is looking for people with open hearts and listening ears.

Jesus taught about the Parable of the Sower – men and women who are receptive to Jesus will be blessed.

And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Un-forgiveness, sins, debt, temptation and the evil one seems to be of the same camp. Therefore it’s better to lose them all and walk free with Jesus.

And Jesus said unto them “Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? (Luke 11:5-6)

Jesus speaks of a friend on a journey.

Who is this friend on a journey?

We are on a journey.

Our Christian life is a journey of faith till we meet Jesus in person.

We never stop to pray to Jesus every day.

We never stop to trust our Father in heaven every day.
