Discipleship # 008 – Covenant Relationship with Jesus, Christian Denominations and Church Membership …

Our covenant relationship with Jesus is still the most important thing in our walk with the Lord …

for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:28)

Jesus through His own blood established for us a New Covenant between Man and God and this is the most precious and most important thing about our Christian life – 1 Timothy 2:5

Our blood covenant relationship with Jesus is key and central to our Christian value.

Without this blood covenant Jesus made for us, we have no access back to fellowship with our Father in heaven.

Without this covenant relationship Jesus established for us, there will no meaning to real Christian fellowship.

Covenant Relationship compared to Denomination Rules and Church Membership

1. Our covenant relationship with Jesus is of eternal value and universal application. Any place here on Earth you start a new fellowship and church; the main focus will be and should be on our covenant relationship with Jesus.

2. Denomination rules can change, but our covenant relationship with Jesus is based on the promises of God which changes not. From the Jerusalem church in Acts to the time of Reformation, and to today, we have got more then 33 000 denominations and the numbers is still growing. Denominational rules will keep changing but the promises and commandment of God changes not!

3. Church membership will not last forever, but our covenant relationship with Jesus will continues for ever and anywhere. Good people change church membership for good reasons – change of resident location, work assignment and mission placement.

Keeping our Balances and Focus

Consider these three important aspect of Christianity today – our covenant relationship with Jesus, denomination rules and church membership.

“Denomination Rules” and “Church Membership” are supposed to help us establish and continues in our blood covenant relationship with Jesus!

Our focus and commitment to our blood covenant relationship with Jesus will help us keep our focus and attention on the Great Commission …

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

The life and engine of the Great Commission is in discipleship

Discipleship as in impartation and passing on of values we learned from Jesus …

Therefore every Christian fellowship and church need to have in place a form of organized discipleship program to promote, to teach, to continue all the teachings and commandments of Jesus which is part of our commitment to our blood covenant relationship with Jesus.

Our commitment to our blood covenant relationship with Jesus will move us to do something meaningful for Jesus.
