Discipleship # 012 – Two kinds of disciples … part two …

Paul and Timothy ..

You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:10-17)

Paul stood far far faaaaaar away from Demetrius ….but Paul gave of his precious time and resource to nurture and mentor Timothy.

Paul’s purpose and intention was clear …

that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work

Amazing thing does happen in our Christian life ……transformation and renewal.

Away from un-fruitfulness meaningless rat-race lifestyle..

Towards fruitful, meaningful and productive life for Jesus

The word of God is living and powerful and this is what we need to change ourselves and make ourselves fruitful and productive.

All forms of transformation and renewal will be inconvenient, can be painful, but the end result is for something better.

Among the most important things Jesus said after His resurrection and before His ascension …

..and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:20)

Jesus knew this is what we need to redeem ourselves from un-fruitful life.

We need to re-educate ourselves as according to the words and teachings of Jesus.

We need to look at things from Jesus’ perspective.

We need to understand what Jesus understood.

We need to know what Jesus knew.

Paul had his encounter with Jesus, and his life was never the same.

Paul experienced the power of God to transform him, from being a destroyer of faith toward becoming an awesome faith builder.

Paul changed from being a church destroyer to church planter.

What Paul did with Timothy, created an important bridge for disciples and followers of Jesus to continue from one generation to the next.

That generation of disciples with the Apostles was brutally persecuted. Peter and Paul were martyred by order of Nero sometime between AD 66 to AD 68..

Timothy and his next generation disciples continue the ministry of the words of Jesus ..

20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

We are still waiting for Jesus to return, and we are still bonded to this commandment Jesus gave us … Paul had done with superb result

“..that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work..”

We need to do the same and continue for the glory of Jesus
