be part of The Great Commission, with Jesus, for Jesus

(Matthew 28:18-20)

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

What Jesus had spoken here to His disciples is commonly known as The Great Commission.

I believe the two main fulfillment of The Great Commission are Communications of the Gospel of Jesus, and Christian Education for the purpose of raising mature disciples and leaders for Jesus.

The communications of the Gospel is necessary for inviting people into the kingdom of God –

(Romans 10:14)

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Christian education is necessary for producing disciples for Jesus who will become mature leaders for the church –

(2 Timothy 3:16-17)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

  1. Communications of the Gospel

The Gospel refers mainly to the salvation plan of God through Jesus. That’s the shortest possible description, simplified.

The Gospel needs to be proclaimed, communicated so that those who hear or received the message can response. It can be preached, discussed over coffee or even texted, coded and in braille format.

Yes Jesus needs a response from us, every one of us.

Although in the process of witnessing and communicating the Gospel, we may encounter rejections, but that does not means we stop communicating the Gospel.

We are called to be living witness and testimony of the grace and salvation of God through faith in Jesus. To be Christian is to be living witness of God’s salvation plan through Jesus.

It is Jesus who will save the people, not us! Means to say while we communicate and bear witness of the message of Jesus, we are simply showing people where and how to find salvation.

We may not have to communicate all the time because people may get tired of hearing, but we need to “be ready in season and out of season”. Whenever opportunity arise or when someone unexpectedly ask “excuse me, can you explain about your salvation and faith?”

Communications of the Gospel will not be complete without the long details version.

From the creation of man, to Noah’s flood, to Moses, through the Old Testament prophets, to the days of Jesus appearing, crucifixion and death on the cross, Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, His giving of commandments to His disciples, to His ascension witnessed and recorded in the Book of Acts, and what was written about the coming judgement of God, and we are to wait for Jesus’ return.

Now that will be a lot of details, but the key is, whatever information we need to provide please make sure they are

Christ Centered

That’s right. Gospel messages needs to be focused and centered on Jesus, and let Jesus be magnified –

(John 12:32)

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

  1. Christian Education

Our good Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who redeems us from sin will not leave us where He finds us.

Jesus wants to renew and transforms us into mature sons and daughters of God, make us become fruitful and effective.

This is where discipleship begins.

There will be inconveniences, resistances, and even persecution unto death. But these are all part of molding process, transforming and renewing us into mature and fruitful personalities ready to serve our Lord.

This is the channel for Christ-likeness in us. And all this can only happens through educational endeavor, organized consistent training equipping programs –

(Ephesians 4:11-13)

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

(Romans 12:1-2)

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Educational programs of course need manpower and commitment to get the work done.

Organized training equipping programs basically helps us to discern correctly between good and bad in the context of the kingdom of God, sharpens our sense of judgement and enable us to practice righteousness and truth for the glory of Jesus.

Education is an important part of Christian life. We cannot take for granted all confessed Christian will know now to live by faith for Jesus. We need to be trained.

We are living in a world flooded with distractions, diversion, corruptions and even perversions of truth. We need to be well trained and equipped to be able to stand firm in our faith in Jesus. Very often Christians went astray due to ignorance, deception and not being able to judge for themselves what is approved of God.

A core value of our training and equipping needs to focus on –

the Supremacy of Christ

That’s right; the Supremacy of Christ will teach us everything we need to learn about obedience and service to our Lord and Savior. Like in the beginning when God created Adam to dominance, but that power and authority was to be under subject to God Almighty.

We are trained to be conquerors, but under authority to Jesus.

We are called to live in liberty, but in obedience to Christ the real Head of the Church.

In conclusion, the two fulfillment of the Great Commission are

Christ Centered messages

discipleship under The Supremacy of Christ

Let’s be partners with Jesus to fulfill the Great Commission

The fulfillment of the Great Commission is not something which can be achieved through the individual; we need the whole community of faithful Christians working together in good partnership together under Jesus’ vision and direction.
