Jesus is the living word of God –
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Jesus said that to His disciples during the last supper, while He was prepared to face betrayal, crucifixion and death.
But even Jesus exercise faith in the promises of God that He will be raised from the dead …
We know we have many things to worry about in this life, but Jesus taught us to keep focus on the most important thing in life …
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”
For all the troubles and hardship we have to deal with, nothing compares to Jesus’ call to enter the kingdom of God.
Set priority and preferences for the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Make it our goal to be followers of the way and teaching of Jesus.
Because where Jesus is, there we will be as well… in eternity with God
Tribulations do not bring joy, but Jesus taught us to have peace in Him.
The kind of peace we have in Jesus is found in His words and promises.
Jesus promised His disciples a place in the kingdom.
Jesus promised us comfort from the Holy Spirit; the Spirit of Truth who will encourage and remind us all that Jesus wanted us to learn, remember and practice.
Jesus promised His disciples the power and authority of the Father to care and protect those who serve Him, unto eternal life and fellowship with God.
Those promises were first delivered to His disciples who saw their master and teacher Jesus went through unfair trails and prosecution, nailed to the cross and died.
These disciples of Jesus were dumbfounded and lock themselves in-house while their master and teacher were buried in the tomb of Joseph.
What revived their hope and trust in Jesus was when they encounter the resurrected master and teacher who showed them the way into the kingdom of God.
Jesus was crucified …
He was buried dead …
And the same Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day … never to die again
Jesus overcame the world.
1 Corinthians 15:53-57
For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Humanity fell into sin and lived in fear of death.
People have been driven into both slavery and greed, falling deeper into sin and death, moving further and further away from our hope and trust in God for a better future.
Jesus had come to show us the way to a new future of eternal life.
Jesus defeated sin and death and redeem us for eternal life.
What stands in our way is our will and determination to trust Jesus.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
There is salvation in none other except Jesus.
There is no hope for eternal life except in Jesus.
To follow Jesus to eternal life is to repent and turn away from our life of slavery to sin, and let God create in us a new heart to love Him and to serve Him.
1 John 5:1-5
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Whenever and wherever we face tribulations and difficulties, we remember Jesus has overcome the world.
As disciples of Jesus we follow His way and abide in His promises to receive our place in the kingdom of God
Jesus went to the cross and taught us to pick up our cross to follow Him to eternal life.
To pick up our cross is to sacrifice our will in exchange for the will of God.
